TORTOISE GUIDE

Visiting the Tortoises Hotel - What to expect

On arrival at the Tortoise Hotel, please ensure that your tortoise arrives in a solid box or a small plastic container to prevent any leakage of urine or faeces. Our facility is a residential garden, and our tortoises are free roamers in our garden. Therefore, we kindly ask that you refrain from touching any tortoises.

*All guest tortoise areas have strict biosecurity measures in place, preventing visitors from entering any of the enclosures. Your access to the guest area is limited. However, we do understand you will want to see where your pet will be living during their stay. Only pre-approved visits can be offered. Please call us to discuss an appointment.

Housing

Companion tortoises will be housed together to maintain their strong bond. However, all other tortoises will be housed separately and will never meet another. Throughout the year, we provide a dedicated Tortoise Hotel where your pets can stay warm and dry. We also have facilities for Winter boarding alongside our hibernation service.

We encourage you to bring your bedding or potted plants for your tortoise's indoor table. Please ensure that all items are securely placed in a plastic bag for biosecurity reasons.

Health Check

All customers will undergo a brief health check phone call regarding their tortoise. before their stay. We care deeply about the health and well-being of your precious pets, and as such, we kindly request that you keep us informed of any vet visits or health concerns related to your tortoise.

Although this may seem like an inconvenience, we need to have all the relevant information so that we can ensure your tortoise receives the best possible care. Please note that in most cases, we will still be able to accommodate your tortoise even if they are experiencing health issues. However, we may need to take extra precautions or adjust their care plan to ensure their safety and comfort.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to your tortoise's health. By working together, we can ensure that all of our tortoises live long, happy, and healthy lives!

Food

All weeds are home-grown or hand-picked daily for your tortoise's consumption. If you have a specific diet in mind, you are welcome to bring your weeds from home. (Please place in a plastic lunchbox-style container with their name on the top)

PLEASE NOTE: We do not feed tortoises fruit, tomatoes, or dried foods. Our recommendation is to use the www.TortoiseTable.Org app for food recommendations.

If your tortoise needs assistance in transitioning to a fresh weed diet, we are happy to help. Calcium powder, limestone and nutrabal will be provided by us as part of our service.

Each tortoise will have access to a water bath to drink and bathe themselves. Small tortoises will be monitored and bathed if needed.

Bedding

Lastly, we have taken expert advice from a reputable reptile vet and have opted for scrunched-up newspapers as our preferred bedding material.  In our experience, Tortoises seem to prefer newspaper over other materials, and no tortoise light/heat will be nearby.

To secure your tortoise stay for up to 7 days, we require a £40 non-refundable deposit. This is to ensure that we can reserve the right table or enclosure for your tortoise and guarantee that it is available for their stay.

For longer stays of 7 days or more, we require a 50% deposit. This allows us to prepare and cater for their stay and ensure that everything is in order.
